Ramy Brooks of Healy will be the first musher to leave Fourth Avenue in Saturday's ceremonial start of the 28th annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Brooks will wear bib No. 2 as he departs on the 1,100-mile wilderness journey to Nome. Bib No. 1 has been reserved for honorary mushers Joe Redington Sr., Edgar Nollner and John E. Schultz. The field includes seven former champions who have combined for 16 of the past 27 championships. Five-time champion Rick Swenson of Two Rivers will be bib No. 41, three-time winner Martin Buser of Big Lake is No. 43, three-time winner Jeff King of Denali Park is No. 36, two-time and defending champion Doug Swingley of Lincoln, Mont., is No. 17, 1983 champ Rick Mackey of Nenana is No. 18, 1976 champ Jerry Riley of Nenana is No. 66 and 1975 champ Emmitt Peters of Ruby is No. 40.
