It was an anonymous bomb threat, not a Y2K meltdown, that shut the New Year's Eve party down -- for a while. About 90 minutes before midnight, police cleared the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and adjacent Town Square to investigate the threat. Two hours later, they'd found nothing. In the meantime, some revelers refused to be scared off and pulled the 7-foot Millennium Drum into Town Square, where they were joined by thousands to greet the new year. (Photo by Jim Lavrakas)
