It was an anonymous bomb threat, not a Y2K meltdown, that shut the New Year's Eve party down -- for a while. About 90 minutes before midnight, police cleared the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and adjacent Town Square to investigate the threat. Two hours later, they'd found nothing.
