SUNDAY's games

PILOTS 5, CHINOOKS 4

The Pilots beat the Chinooks 5-4 on Chugiak's two-run, walk-off error Sunday at Mulcahy.

The Pilots rallied with three runs in the ninth inning. They loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batsman, chasing pitcher Shane Armstrong. Reliever Zachary Freeman threw four pitches -- Anchorage's Kevin Viers singled on Freeman's first offering to drive in a run, and Trevor Podratz hit a grounder on an 0-2 pitch that led to shortstop Josh Altmann's error and opened the door for the tying run and scoring run.

BUCS SWEEP PANNERS

The Bucs came up with late runs in both games to send the Goldpanners to a pair of losses in a Sunday doubleheader in Fairbanks. The Bucs won the first game 9-8 and the second one 7-5.

In the opener, Bucs scored four times in the seventh (and final) inning, getting a two-run single from Dylan Butler and a two-run double from Chane Lynch to erase the Goldpanners' two-run lead.

Down 9-7 going into the bottom half of the inning, the Fairbanks got one run back and had a runner at third base with one out, but consecutive groundouts ended the threat.

In the second game seven-inning game, the Bucs scored four runs in the sixth to help pitcher Alex Godzak run his record to 4-0. Godzak went four innings, struck out four and allowed one run on three hits.

Butler was 3 for 4 and scored twice.

MINERS, OILERS SPLIT

The Miners and Oilers each won a game in a doubleheader at Palmer, with the Miners taking the first game 4-1 and the Oilers coming back for a 10-1 rout in the nightcap.

Tyler Stubblefield pitched a seven-inning complete game in the opening to power the Miners. He struck out seven and gave up six hits.

Mat-Su took control with two runs in the fourth. Matt Decker smacked an RBI double and Brandon Smith followed with a run-scoring single.

In the late game, the Oilers scored six unearned runs in the fifth inning to run away with the victory. The big hit that inning was A.J. Hernandez's two-run single.
