WALKOFF WILD PITCH LIFTS BUCS

The Bucs took the first game of the best-of-3 Mayor's Cup, scoring the winning run in a 3-2 victory over the Pilots with a walkoff wild pitch Tuesday at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Bucs had runners at second and third base when relief pitcher Justin Dellinger entered the game. Dellinger struck out the first batter he faced but walked the next one on four straight pitches to load the bases. The wild pitch came on a 3-0 count and scored pinch-runner Jonathan Youngblood.

The Pilots tied the game 2-2 with two runs in the top of the ninth. Nikko Saenz and Collin Theroux both stroked run-scoring singles but the Pilots hit into two bases-loaded groundouts that left the bases loaded.

Bucs starter Evan Manarino pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Game 3 of the Mayor's Cup is Thursday night at Mulcahy.

GOLDPANNERS ROUT OILERS

Cody Nulph hit two home runs, including a seventh-inning grand slam, to spark the Goldpanners' 15-4 romp over the Oilers in Fairbanks.

Each team racked up 14 hits, but the Goldpanners worked Peninsula pitchers for nine walks to gain the advantage. Eight Goldpanners tallied hits, seven drew walks.

Alex Rubanowitz and Nick Thurman had three hits apiece for the Oilers.
