A missing person's report was issued July 11 for Valerie Sifsof. Sifsof was last seen at the Granite Creek Campground, Mile 64 on Seward Highway, on July 7. Sisof is 43, 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs 120 pounds. Her hair is black, and she has brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt type jacket, blue sweatpants and black boots.
Alaska State Troopers and volunteers have been searching for Sifsof for the past several days. A blog run by Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, the Olympic snowboarder from Girdwood, is updating the public on the search's progress. A search organized on Saturday in thick, deep woods failed to locate Sifsof. On Monday, the blog post read in part:
The fourth exhausting day comes to a close. Rough going and the wet cold tests the limits of patience and human endurance for misery and anxiety.
And it feels like all the oxygen has been sucked out of the air.
In spite of that, every hour is marked by remarkable good nature and kindness. The entire crew resilient and uncomplaining; steadfast determination and a brilliant spirit of cooperation prevails.
