An Emmonak woman was recently convicted of stealing money from a tribal organization, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Karen Loeffler, Alaska's federal attorney, said in a press release that 40-year-old Stella Kameroff was sentenced June 9 in Anchorage for stealing about $21,000 from the Chuloonawick Native Village, where she served as book keeper. Kameroff cooked the books by identifying the missing funds as "payroll advances that were never repaid and by making unauthorized direct deposits to her personal account," Loeffler said. A second Chuloonawick executive, director Kathleen Blanket, has also been convicted of stealing from the tribal org. Blanket will be sentenced Sept. 9 for stealing some $100,000. Read more.
