Anchorage Deputy Clerk Jacqueline Duke, who played a large role in the controversial April 3 municipal election, has been dismissed.
According to the Anchorage Daily News, Assembly Chairman Ernie Hall said Duke did most of the planning during the election season and was asked to step down. However, Duke's boss, municipal clerk Barbara Gruenstein was not fired.
Hall didn't say why he chose to fire Duke, not Gruenstein. He does offer that his decision to remove Duke was not based on the election controversy alone, although he wouldn't say what else might have lead to her dismissal.
