USS Hulk? Senate Panel requests warship named after Ted Stevens.

According to the Associated Press, a U.S. Senate panel has requested that a Navy warship be named after Alaska's late Sen. Ted Stevens in commemoration of his 40-year legacy. The panel's recommendation was wrapped up in a larger defense spending bill before the Senate on Thursday.

Longtime friend of the late Sen. Stevens, Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii told the AP, "(it would be a) small but well-deserved honor (for someone who did so much to support the Navy)."

Sen. Lisa Murkowski added in a Thursday release:

The late Sen. Theodore Fulton "Ted" Stevens, has a day, a mountain and Alaska's largest airport named in his honor. The Senate panel narrowly missed the boat on making its warship request on this year's "Ted Steven's Day," which happened just five days ago on July 28.
