Craig woman killed in Southeast Alaska truck crash

A woman from the Southeast Alaska community of Craig died overnight Tuesday, when Alaska State Troopers say her pickup hit a tree on Prince of Wales Island.

Troopers said in an online dispatch that they responded just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to the crash that killed 63-year-old Micki Decker, at Mile 9.5 of the Klawock-Hollis Highway. Decker had been driving a 1995 Nissan pickup headed east when her vehicle left the roadway.

"Decker apparently crashed (Tuesday night) but was not found until the next morning," troopers wrote. "Decker was not wearing a seat belt and was fatally injured in the collision. A dog in the vehicle survived and was taken by next of kin."

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters didn't immediately have further details on the crash Thursday morning.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers.
