Fairbanks teen killed in Steese Highway rollover crash

A teenage Fairbanks driver was killed in a rollover crash on the Steese Highway early Tuesday, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers said in a dispatch that they responded to the wreck of a 2001 Honda Civic, near Mile 48 of the highway, at about 5 a.m. Tuesday. The Civic had been carrying two 17-year-old Fairbanks girls: driver Morgan Fisk and passenger Tessa Eickholt.

"(Fisk) lost control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway and the vehicle rolled," troopers wrote. "Fisk was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital by (emergency medical services)."

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said Tuesday that Eickholt suffered only minor injuries in the crash, which remains under investigation by troopers.

Fisk's next of kin have been notified.
