Kenai prison inmate dies; no sign of trauma

A 57-year-old inmate was pronounced dead at Wildwood Correctional Center in Kenai, marking the seventh in-custody Alaska death this year.

Department of Corrections staff found Michael Talcott unresponsive in his cell at about 4 p.m. Sunday, according to a DOC release.

Officers and medical staff tried to revive Talcott and were later assisted by Nikiski Fire Department emergency responders, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Talcott was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma on Talcott's body and he was not under medical treatment at the time of his death," according to DOC.

His family has been notified. Alaska State Troopers and the State Medical Examiner's Office will review the death. Corrections says an internal investigation is also underway.

Talcott had been in custody since April 17, 2008, serving a 20-year sentence for first-degree sexual assault of a minor.
