1 dead, 3 seriously injured in rollover crash on Parks Highway

One person died and three were critically injured in a rollover crash on the Parks Highway in Cantwell early Sunday, Alaska State Troopers reported.

A driver called troopers at 6:48 a.m. to report a crash near Mile 221 of the Parks Highway, south of the entrance to Denali National Park and Preserve.

A 1995 Chevy van had crashed, ejecting some of the passengers, troopers wrote in an online statement Sunday.

Driver Rayfield Dupree, 89, died in the crash, troopers said. Passengers Tabatha D. Quint, 41; Karolyn E. Jenkins, 49; and Yolanda D. Gay, 57, were all seriously injured.

"Several of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, and one passenger was trapped inside the wreckage until emergency medical personnel extricated the occupant," troopers wrote.

The injured passengers were transported to an Anchorage hospital.

Troopers were on scene Sunday afternoon investigating the cause of the crash.
