2 Anchorage fishermen drown when boat capsizes near Resurrection Bay

Two Anchorage men died Saturday when their fishing boat capsized in the Resurrection Bay area, Alaska State Troopers said.

At 3:01 p.m. troopers in Seward were told that a private fishing boat had capsized "outside of Resurrection Bay," the troopers said in a dispatch. It wasn't clear whether they were in the Gulf of Alaska or fishing grounds closer to the more protected waters of the bay.

The U.S. Coast Guard told troopers that two of the four people on the boat drowned when the boat capsized.

Troopers identified the dead as Benjamin Jimenez, 53, of Anchorage and Ferdinand Salvador, 43, of Anchorage.

The survivors were rescued and taken to Seward Hospital with minor injuries, according to the dispatch.

The U.S. Coast Guard did not respond to questions about the rescue.
