Photos: Colony High School band marches in New York City

Thee Northern Sound marching band from Colony High School in Palmer performed Thursday in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The high school marching band — one of only two in Alaska — was selected in a competitive application process to march in the parade.

In addition to the televised Thanksgiving Day performance, a former member of the Colony High marching band, Naomi Winders, also found out this week that she won the 14th annual Bob Hope Band Scholarship Award, presented by Macy's and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation. Winders, now an 18-year-old freshman at Brigham Young University, won a $10,000 scholarship and the Colony High marching band program also received $10,000.
