An Alaska Railroad passenger died after having an apparent medical emergency aboard the train Saturday, the Alaska State Troopers said.
At 2:44 p.m. a railroad crew member called 911 to report a "passenger having trouble breathing," troopers wrote in an online dispatch Saturday.
Troopers and Mat-Su Borough emergency responders met up with the train where the railroad tracks cross East Fireweed Road in Wasilla.
They found Ruby Heacock, 77, of Marion, Ohio "unresponsive" in an aisle of the train, troopers wrote.
First responders performed CPR but Heacock died on the scene "of natural causes," troopers wrote.
In medical emergencies, personnel on Alaska railroad trains use their radio system to call 911, said Alaska Railroad spokesman Tim Sullivan.
In remote areas, troopers can be called in to help.
