Mountain Village man dies in pickup crash, 2 women seriously injured

One man died and two women were seriously injured Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash near Mountain Village, Alaska State Troopers said.

Jessica Peterson, 20, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup on the road from Saint Mary’s to Mountain Village along the Yukon River in Southwest Alaska when it left the roadway, troopers said in an online alert. Troopers were called around 6:20 p.m.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt. Passenger Mackenzie Mike, 20, died at the scene, troopers said. Peterson and 20-year-old Mollie Waskey were transported by air to a hospital in Anchorage. All three lived in Mountain Village.

It was not immediately clear why the vehicle left the roadway, but troopers said the investigation is ongoing.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported, based on information from troopers, the name of a passenger in the pickup. The injured passenger was Mollie Waskey, 20.
