SUV strikes taxi, cars, light pole at Anchorage car dealership

A sport utility vehicle whose driver suffered a medical emergency careened off an Anchorage street near Merrill Field early Tuesday, slamming into a taxi, a light pole and at least two vehicles parked at a car dealership.

Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Anita Shell said a Chevrolet Avalanche went out of control as it was headed east on Fifth Avenue, entered the Alaska Sales and Service lot and hit a Yellow Cab shortly after 2:30 a.m.

"(The) vehicle ran over a light pole, hit the cab," Shell said. "The cab suffered a flat tire."

A number of cars parked outside the dealership were also struck, Shell said.

No charges or citations were initially issued.
