East Anchorage power outage hits school, homes

Nearly 200 customers, including an East Anchorage elementary school, were affected for hours by a power outage early Thursday.

Municipal Light and Power spokeswoman Julie Harris said in an email that the outage, first reported just after 6:30 a.m., hit 197 customers in the vicinity of Pine Street and Boniface Parkway, adjacent to the Glenn Highway.

Power was restored to all affected customers by about 9:20 a.m., ML&P said in a Twitter post.

Anchorage School District officials said on social media that Wonder Park Elementary School was functioning on backup power, with no disruption to classes Thursday.

Harris said the cause of the outage was a malfunctioning cut-out fuse.
