Body found in Chugiak; foul play not suspected

Anchorage police say they do not suspect foul play in the death of a young man whose body was found on the side of a Chugiak road Tuesday afternoon.

The Anchorage Police Department was called to the area where Birchwood Loop Road meets the Old Glenn Highway at 2:14 p.m. after a passerby reported "finding a body on the side of the road," spokesperson Renee Oistad wrote in an email.

The body was identified as Zachariah J. Schneider, 19. His family was notified of his death.

"Police did conduct interviews with people in the area but initial indications are that this is a non-criminal death and no foul play is suspected," Oistad wrote.

"Autopsy will confirm the exact cause of death; it will be several weeks before toxicology results are received," she wrote.
