Video: Check out the electric bus Anchorage is testing this winter

A 100 percent battery electric bus with zero tailpipe emissions or pollutants has arrived in Anchorage for its winter trial run. The Municipality of Anchorage and Proterra will test the bus over the next four months on People Mover routes 10, 25 and 35 beginning Jan. 16.

The municipality's Public Transportation Department partnered with Solid Waste Services to lease the bus. Solid Waste Services will also monitor the bus's performance to help establish the feasibility of electric garbage trucks.

The four-month trial period will test how the bus performs in winter weather, how lower temperatures affect its battery life and whether it's feasible to pursue an electric bus fleet in the future. Riders are invited to share their experiences riding the battery-powered bus on social media using #ElectricRideANC.
