Boy injured in Midtown Anchorage shooting, police say

A boy was sent to the hospital after being shot in the upper body Friday night in Midtown Anchorage, police said.

Dispatchers received reports of gunshots near the intersection of the Seward Highway and Fireweed Lane at 10:45 p.m., Anchorage police said in an alert. A few blocks north at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Ingra Street, at about the same time, an officer was flagged down in regard to a person who was shot. The officer found a boy who had been shot in the upper body, police said.

Police said they believe the shooting happened near the Seward Highway and Fireweed Lane.

The boy was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

Both intersections were temporarily closed Friday.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call dispatch at 311.
