The National Weather Service recorded a new daily high for Anchorage on Tuesday when temperatures hit 81 degrees at the local forecast office.
While official city records are based on West Anchorage temperatures, it was even hotter elsewhere in town. Merrill Field reached 86 degrees just before 5 p.m.
The previous daily high for June 18 was 80 degrees in 1926, said Weather Service meteorologist Andy Dixon. The all-time highest temperature on record in Anchorage was 86 degrees, set June 25, 1953.
Seward also saw a new daily record Tuesday, with a high of 70 degrees. It was a record-tying day in Homer (74 degrees), Talkeetna (89 degrees) and Palmer (78 degrees) where temperatures all equaled daily highs.
