Anchorage detectives are ruling a fatal Mountain View shooting over the holiday weekend a murder-attempted suicide

Anchorage police said Wednesday the fatal shooting of a woman at a Mountain View apartment was the result of a murder-attempted suicide.

Police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Pang Xiong. Officers arrived at the apartment Saturday to find Xiong suffering from a single gunshot wound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Anchorage Police Department said in a Wednesday release, a man inside the apartment, later identified as Cher Lor, also suffered a single gunshot wound.

Xiong's two children, ages 10 and 15, were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting but were not harmed, police said.

Police are not saying who tried to kill Xiong. The release says, "Detectives are classifying this case as a murder/attempted suicide. It is unclear if Xiong and Lor were married, but neighbors say they were living together."

A police spokesperson did not immediately return requests for clarification.

Lor remains at a local hospital in critical condition; charges have not been filed at this time, police said.

Neighbors previously told Alaska Dispatch News there were signs of trouble in the apartment long before violence erupted Saturday night.
