Anchorage man gets 8 years in prison for possession of child porn

Anchorage police announced Wednesday that 46-year-old Bernard Irrigoo Jr. was sentenced to eight years in prison on a consolidated child pornography possession charge.

Anchorage Superior Court Judge Paul Olson's sentenced Irrigoo to 10 years with two years suspended, five years of probation, and required him to register as a sex offender for 15 years upon release.

Anchorage Police Department Detective Mark Thomas began investigating Irrigoo more than three years ago, police said. Working undercover, Thomas received digital files from Irrigoo which indicated the possession and distribution of illegal images and video, police said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies — The Alaska Internet Crimes Against Children task force, APD, FBI and the Alaska State Troopers — served a search warrant on Irrigoo's West Anchorage home, police said. They seized numerous computers, which they examined and turned up materials depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as 6 and 7, APD said.

Irrigoo was subsequently arrested in early 2014 and pleaded guilty to the consolidated charge about two years later, police said.
