Wasilla man gets 8 years in prison for Anchorage bank robbery

Federal prosecutors announced that a 45-year-old Wasilla man was sentenced Friday to nearly eight years in prison for robbing a Midtown Anchorage bank.

U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Gleason handed down a 95-month sentence against Wayne Michael Sexton, who according to prosecutors has two prior convictions for bank robberies he committed in 1999.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Skrocki said Sexton took over the bank's lobby, pointed a revolver at bank employees and pilfered teller stations one at a time. He made off with more than $17,000 in cash during the Aug. 7, 2015 robbery, Skrocki said.

The judge ordered Sexton to pay the money back, prosecutors said.
