Downtown Anchorage bank robbed by armed men

Anchorage police and the FBI responded Thursday morning to an armed robbery in downtown Anchorage. Both suspects were still at large.

An FBI statement on the robbery, at the Wells Fargo branch at 630 E. Fifth Ave., said the robbery took place just before 10:15 a.m. The suspects were described as two black men, one carrying a shotgun and one a handgun.

"They left the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash inside a duffel bag with purple straps," FBI officials wrote. "One of the suspects was wearing a red sweatshirt, the other a gray sweatshirt and red shoes, both were wearing sunglasses."

Anchorage police released surveillance photos and detailed descriptions of the suspects Thursday morning, saying one stood 6-foot-2 and the other "a few inches taller."

"One suspect was wearing dark pants, black and white high top shoes, (and) a red hoodie with white lettering on the front with at the least the word 'Great' on it," police wrote. "He was carrying a blue backpack and was armed with a gun. The other male suspect was wearing dark pants, red tennis shoes, a gray zip-up jacket, and was carrying a black duffel bag."

FBI spokesperson Staci Feger-Pellessier said Thursday there wasn't yet any word on whether the robbers had threatened anyone with the weapons. Anchorage police said in a statement nobody was injured during the robbery.

Anyone with information on the suspects or their whereabouts is asked to contact the FBI's Anchorage office at 907-276-4441 or Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
