Previously convicted sex offender back in federal court on child porn charges

A former Boys and Girls Club soccer coach previously convicted on child pornography charges once again faces similar allegations in federal court.

Prosecutors filed two charges against Andrew Thomas Weed, 47, on Thursday, for possession and distribution of child porn.

A grand jury handed up the indictment against Weed. The court document includes few details about the investigation that led to the charges. One of the charges asserts Weed had a laptop computer containing sexually explicit videos involving minors.

In 2004, Weed was sentenced to a decade in prison after pleading guilty to 18 charges related to child pornography, according to an Anchorage Daily News story.

Prosecutors said at that time Weed was the group manager for three of four internet pornography sites, and he uploaded child pornography to all four sites to be shared with group members.

He also received three years of supervised release. An assistant U.S. attorney asked for a long term of supervision due to comments Weed made about how close he'd come to sexually abusing a child.

Weed served as a Boys and Girls Club of Southcentral Alaska volunteer soccer coach for girls, ages 8 and 9, in summer 2002.
