3rd suspect surrenders in alleged carjacking and kidnapping of woman

The last of three men accused by Anchorage police of carjacking, kidnapping and assaulting a woman Aug. 14 has surrendered to officers.

Police said in a brief statement Tuesday that 24-year-old Serge Azede II, wanted on a kidnapping charge, turned himself in late Monday.

The other suspects were William Burgess, 18, who was apprehended in Fairbanks early Monday, and Jean Vagao, 19, who was taken into custody by police shortly after the kidnapping.

Police have said the incident was believed to have been a targeted one because the victim and Burgess knew each other. Burgess allegedly carjacked her at gunpoint near Second Avenue and Bunn Street, leaving a second woman behind, shortly before 10 p.m. Aug. 14; he and the victim drove to another site and transferred to another vehicle containing Vagao and Azede, police said.

Police said the woman was physically assaulted during a drive to Eklutna Lake, where she was left zip-tied in woods near the lake. She was able to free herself and called dispatchers at 11:41 p.m. Vagao was arrested shortly after the incident.

Court records indicate Azede was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Anchorage.
