Troopers: Napaskiak man arrested for threatening woman with sexual assault at knifepoint

Troopers in the Southwest Alaska village of Atmautluak arrested a 42-year-old man Sunday who was wanted on charges that he allegedly broke into a house in a different community nearly three weeks earlier and threatened to sexually assault a woman at knifepoint.

Wilson Beaver of Napaskiak was arrested on charges including attempted sexual assault, assault and burglary Sunday, according to a dispatch from Alaska State Troopers.

The charges stem from an Aug. 15 incident in Napaskiak, a village of about 400 people on the Kuskokwim River. That day, troopers in Bethel received a report of a burglary and assault with a knife. An investigation found that Beaver had "entered a residence … put a knife to a female's throat while children were in the residence, and threatened her with violence in exchange for sex,"  troopers said in the dispatch.

The woman was able to get Wilson out of the room but sustained injuries, according to the dispatch. Wilson fled the home, troopers said.

On Sunday, troopers found Wilson in the village of Atmautluak, a village northwest of Napaskiak on the Pitmiktakik River. It's not clear how Wilson got to Atmautluak, which is only accessible by boat or air from Napaskiak.

He was arrested on a warrant for first-degree attempted sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault and first-degree burglary. He was taken to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel.
