Update, 8:30 a.m.: Anchorage Police Chief Chris Tolley said Tuesday morning that police had one person in custody in connection with the fatal shooting, and they believe he is the only suspect.

Tommy Rumph, 31, was contacted by police in the area of 29th Avenue and Willow Street in Spenard, more than a mile from Tuesday's shooting scene, police said in a public statement. He surrendered peacefully, police said.

Tolley said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and wouldn't provide additional detail about what police believe happened, or comment on a Facebook Live video that was posted shortly after the shooting on a Facebook page belonging to a Tommy Rumph who lives in Anchorage.

Tolley thanked the community for their help during the manhunt and said it was tragic that the public had to go through such situations.

Original Story: Anchorage police were investigating a shooting death at 15th Avenue and E Street early Tuesday and were seeking a suspect in the area they identified as 31-year-old Tommy Rumph.

A person claiming on Facebook to be Tommy Rumph and living in Anchorage posted a profane live video at about 7 a.m. in which he said "I know I'm going to be gone. … I ain't gonna get to see my son born."

Officers were called to the scene just after 6:15 a.m., according to a statement.

The body remained in the intersection more than an hour later, with a white screen partially obscuring the scene.

The Anchorage School District said Central Middle and Chugach Optional schools would be closed for the day as police investigate the shooting.

ASD spokeswoman Heidi Embley said any students who show up would be bused to West High School, where they can meet parents.

The location of the shooting is about 2 blocks north of Valley of the Moon Park, where two people were killed early in the morning Aug. 28.
