Robbery suspect eludes police in South Anchorage search

Police were unable to find a robbery and assault suspect during a search early Wednesday near Old Seward Highway and 74th Avenue in South Anchorage.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, but police said in an update at 8:30 a.m. that officers were "no longer conducting an active search."

"Officers continue to investigate the robbery and will provide more information as more facts are confirmed in the case," police wrote.

According to the statement, police received a report at about 4:20 a.m. that a male and two females were fighting outside and that one of them "was talking about robbing the other and trying to break into vehicles. The male started physically assaulting one of the females." Gunfire was also reported in the area.

Arriving officers found a female victim with minor injuries. She was treated at the scene by medics. The other female fled on foot but was soon found by officers.

Shell casings were located by officers at the scene, police said.
