Big Lake man arrested, charged with shooting neighbor's dog

A 77-year-old Big Lake man was arrested Friday after Alaska State Troopers say he shot his neighbor's dog.

Troopers were called to Sunrise Drive in Big Lake shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday for a report that a man identified as William Hansen had "shot and wounded" a neighbor's small dog.

"Further investigation showed Hansen was intoxicated when he shot the dog," troopers wrote in an online dispatch Saturday.

Hansen also resisted arrest and "placed a trooper in fear of imminent physical injury," the dispatch said.

Hansen was arrested on charges of animal cruelty, weapon misconduct, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
