Police: Fatal shooting in Muldoon began with a group “altercation”

A shooting Saturday night in East Anchorage that left one man dead happened when "a group of people in the area … got into an altercation," police said Monday.

Police identified the victim as Brandon Irlmeier, 20. Officers found his body near Sixth Avenue and Oklahoma Street when they were responding to a call about two men with guns nearby at around 11 p.m.

Police provided no further details about the incident.

One man, Orion Lind, 21, was taken into custody for questioning but was not arrested as part of the homicide investigation, police said. He was being held at the Anchorage jail on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, they said.
