Suspect charged in deadly shooting at Fairbanks motel

Sunday morning update: Fairbanks police have arrested a suspect in Friday's homicide at a downtown motel.

Police said they located the suspect, Leron Kwase Roland, a 21-year-old from Las Vegas, at a home off the Parks Highway. He was arrested on charges of first-degree murder shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday and taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center, police said in a statement late Saturday.

Original story: Fairbanks police say they are investigating a shooting at a local motel early Friday that left 25-year-old Todd James Demoski dead.

Officers had not made any arrests in the case by Saturday afternoon. They were investigating several leads, said Yumi McCulloch, Fairbanks Police Department spokeswoman.

According to a statement from the department, a caller reported to police early Friday that someone had been shot. Around 3 a.m., police found Demoski suffering from a gunshot wound inside a common area of the Alaskan Motor Inn in downtown Fairbanks.

Demoski was taken to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Police asked anyone with information that may be related to the investigation, including anyone with reports of unusual activity in the downtown Fairbanks area between 2 and 4 a.m. Friday, to contact Lt. Matt Soden at msoden@fairbanks.us or 907-450-6556.

This is the second homicide in the Fairbanks area this year, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported. Jasmine Lee States, 26, was shot in the eye in late January and later died. Her half-brother is charged with her murder.
