APD: Police name victim who died after fight in East Anchorage

(Update: Anchorage police on Saturday morning named the victim as Tupou Satini Jr., 40, after family was notified of his death.)

A man was found fatally injured and lying in an East Anchorage street late Thursday after a fight at a nearby apartment complex, police said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was found in the 3900 block of Eighth Avenue at about 11:30 p.m., according to an overnight police alert. Officers found him with what they described as life-threatening injuries from an assault and took him to a hospital.

They also detained several people for questioning. No arrests had been made as of Friday morning.

Police issued an update just before 6 a.m. saying that the man had died of his injuries.

He was inside the apartment complex when a fight started "and it continued out into the street," Anchorage Police Department spokesman MJ Thim said. "That's when we got a call for a body lying in the street."

APD is asking anyone with information about the assault, including surveillance video, to call dispatch at 311 (option 1) or Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP to remain anonymous.
