Akiachak man shot his brother to death in a fight over alcohol, troopers say

An Akiachak man shot and killed his brother on Friday evening after the two fought about alcohol, Alaska State Troopers said.

Robert Snyder, 32, retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun and shot his brother, 36-year-old Tom Snyder, in the face, killing him, troopers said Monday. Then he turned the shotgun on himself and fired a single shot into his own head.

Robert Snyder survived the shotgun blast and was flown to Bethel, then to Anchorage and on to Seattle for injuries troopers described as life-threatening.

Tom Snyder’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The incident remains under investigation by troopers from Anchorage and Bethel.
