Man arrested for arson, attempted murder after apartment fire in downtown Anchorage

Police arrested Freddie L. Fox, 66, on charges of attempted murder, arson and assault after an apartment fire last week in downtown Anchorage that injured a man.

Police and fire crews responded to a fire on the 400 block of Eagle Street at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived they saw two people dragging a man out of a burning apartment, police wrote in an online report.

The man was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, police wrote. He was the only person inside the first-floor apartment.

Police wrote that they believe Fox, a relative of the man rescued from the fire, broke a window of the apartment from the outside, “set an object on fire, and then threw both that burning object and an accelerant into the apartment,” then left the scene.

Fox was arrested Friday on charges of attempted murder, arson and assault, all in the first degree.

Police wrote that the motive for this crime is still under investigation.
