Anchorage police search for witnesses after man injured in Spenard shooting

Anchorage police said they are searching for witnesses after a man was shot in the Spenard neighborhood early Sunday.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of McRae Road around 1:24 a.m., the police department wrote in an online statement. At the scene, one man had a single gunshot wound to his lower body and police said he was taken to the hospital for the non-life-threatening injury.

Police said they believe the shooting happened outside of a home and the suspects then fled the area in a vehicle.

“While the circumstances surrounding the crime are still under investigation, this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety at this time,” police wrote.

There was no suspect description available early Sunday and police asked anyone with information or video footage of the area to call dispatch at 311.
