Kodiak troopers respond to report of argument, find goods stolen from scout camp, schools

Authorities called to a campfire in Kodiak where two people were "yelling at each other" found a man and a woman in possession of stolen goods from recent burglaries at a Boy Scout camp, preschool and elementary school, the Alaska State Troopers said.

At 7:43 a.m. Friday, troopers in Kodiak received a report of two people building a campfire and arguing near the end of Beaver Lake Drive, a subdivision near the island's Wal-Mart store.

Troopers found Desiree Heglin, 25, and Richard Knagin, 25, as well as "several stolen items connected with burglaries in the Kodiak area."

The break-ins happened at a Boy Scout camp on May 10, a preschool on May 17 and East Elementary School on May 18. The dispatch did not describe the stolen items or their value.

Heglin also had a controlled substance, the dispatch said.

Knagin and Heglin were arrested on charges including burglary and theft, with Heglin also facing charges of violating probation and drug possession.
