Wasilla man killed in Glenn Highway crash near Chickaloon

A Wasilla man died Monday in a Glenn Highway head-on collision with a U-Haul truck that also injured the other driver, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday.

Troopers said in an initial dispatch late Monday that they responded to the Chickaloon crash that killed 31-year-old Joshua Campbell at Mile 94 of the Glenn at about 4 p.m.

"An investigation revealed (Campbell) was operating his 2015 Chrysler 200 when he collided with another vehicle," troopers wrote. "Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene by Mat-Su Borough (medics)."

An updated dispatch on Tuesday identified the vehicle Campbell struck as a U-Haul driven by 32-year-old Jeanette Derry. She suffered only minor injuries, with two passengers in the truck unhurt.

No specific contributing factors in the crash had been identified by Tuesday, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

"The Chrysler crossed the center line and hit the (U-Haul truck)," Peters said.

The State Medical Examiner Office took Campbell's body from the scene for an autopsy. His next of kin have been notified.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the collision.
