1 dead after shooting at Barrow home

North Slope authorities say a Barrow man shot a woman and exchanged gunfire with someone in a house where she fled before turning the gun on himself early Saturday morning.

The incident was reported about 2:46 a.m. Saturday. Someone called police to report gunshots near the 1200 block of Agvik Street in Barrow, borough spokesman David Fauske said in an emailed statement.

An investigation found that the man, who has not yet been identified, shot and injured a woman in a home on the 1800 block of Agvik Street.

The woman fled to a different home on the street. The man followed her and fired a round into the house, Fauske wrote.

Someone inside the home shot back twice, Fauske wrote. The man left and went a few blocks down the street, where he was later found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Fauske wrote.

The woman's injuries were not life-threatening, Fauske wrote.

He said names were being withheld while authorities were contacting next of kin.
