Photos: Windstorm blasts Southcentral Alaska

Even the National Weather Service was affected by the power outage.

Wind gusts varied from 70 mph to a reported 131 mph just before 8 p.m. near the Glen Alps parking lot in Anchorage's Hillside neighborhood abutting the Chugach Range. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported several strong gusts at various points in and around Anchorage. The Anchorage port saw a gust of 63 mph at about 10:20 p.m. McHugh Creek, off the Seward Highway south of Anchorage, got hit by an 88 mph breeze Tuesday afternoon. Not far away, Potter Marsh had a 75 mph gust.
