2 Alaska boys, missing since June, found in Washington

According to The Associated Press, two Prince of Wales Island boys who had been missing since June were found on Friday as they stepped off a ferry in Washington state.

A bus driver thought it was suspicious that the boys, 12 and 14 years old, were spotted traveling without an adult.

The driver called the situation to the attention of an Alaska Marine Highway System worker on the ferry Matanuska. The ferry worker recognized the boys from a missing persons flyer.

When they stepped off the boat in Bellingham, police took them in. The boys' mother, Laura Simmermeyer, said, "They're keeping them safe until they can be transported back to Alaska."

She said said the boys will be evaluated at a mental health facility, and Alaska State Troopers would arrange their return.
