Man accused of rippie robbery

Police say Ricky Laupola didn't have much luck Monday night at Rippie World.

Officers found Laupola, 30, hiding in nearby woods with the cash box they say he stole from the Midtown pull-tab establishment.

Laupola, a felon on probation, police said, was charged with assault, misconduct involving weapons, theft, robbery and criminal mischief. Bail at the Anchorage Jail was set at $20,000.

Police say Laupola entered Rippie World, 5121 Arctic Blvd., at about 8:45 p.m., flashed a shotgun and demanded money from a clerk behind the counter. The clerk fled to a Tesoro station next door and called 911.

Laupola broke the glass counter with the butt of the gun , grabbed a cash box with money inside and ran, police say.

A K-9 officer and his dog found Laupola in the woods.
