East makes Service pay for extra-inning error

The East Thunderbirds topped Service 2-1 in extra innings despite a combined no-hit effort from Cougars pitchers Tanner Hamilton and Ron Valdez.

East capitalized on four Service errors to earn the win. In the eighth, Shayne Tuck reached on a two-base error and then stole third. Brayam Campos' fielder's choice allowed Tuck to slide past the tag of the Service catcher for the winning score.

East's Austin Cassaday went six innings, giving up four hits and a run while striking out five. Josh Easterly worked the last two innings and allowed no hits to pick up the win. Catcher Tyler Moore threw out three base runners.

West 9, Bartlett 8 (8 innings)

The Eagles opened their season in dramatic fashion with a come-from-behind win over the Golden Bears at Mulcahy.

Adam Manzer was the hero for the Eagles, scoring two runs and going 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs. Dylan Wisthoff got the win for West.

The Eagles trailed 8-4 entering the bottom of the eighth but rallied behind Jon Harrison's one-run double and one-run single from Dean Romine. Romine hit a grounder to second and beat the throw to first with a headfirst slide. Manzer then hit a bases-loaded single to center with a full count and two outs that plated the tying and winning runs.

The West win diminished a strong showing by Golden Bears' pitcher Kyle Mansfield, who threw a complete game with 13 strike outs and went 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Mansfield sparked Bartlett's three-run ninth with a bases-loaded single that drove in two Golden Bears.
