Bucs' bats blast Bears

The Anchorage Bucs wasted little time in getting the 2008 Alaska Baseball League season off to a roaring start.

The Bucs plated four in the first, three in the second and went on to a 13-1 win over the Bears of California on Monday at Mulcahy Stadium.

Designated hitter Paul Goldschmidt blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning for the Bucs. Leadoff man Evan Wells reached base all five times - two infield hits and three walks - and scored three runs.

Eddie Tisdale and Matt Apfel hit back-to-back doubles in the second inning to blow the game wide open.

Tisadale, a Winthrop senior-to-be, laced a two-out double into the left-center field gap to score two. Apfel followed with a two-bagger to plate Tisdale.

The Bucs had 17 hits on the night. The Bears managed just three.

Starting pitcher Red Patterson allowed an unearned run on one hit and three strikeouts in five innings. His only blemish was walking seven.
