Carter leads field into Yentna Station,

Cain Carter followed in stepfather Lance Mackey's footstep Saturday when he took charge of the 150-mile Junior Iditarod race.

Carter, whose stepdad is the two-time Iditarod defending champion, was the first musher to arrive at Yentna Station, where each of the 21 mushers is required to stay for 10 hours.

Carter arrived at 7:17 p.m. after 85 miles of mushing. Travis Beals was second to arrive at 8:10 p.m., three minutes ahead of Rebekah Ruzicka.

The race began at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at Knik Lake and ends at Willow Lake, 65 miles from Yentna Station.

Wood Sutton wins Quest red lantern

The last two mushers on the 1,000-mile Yukon Quest trail crossed the finish line in Fairbanks on Saturday.

Becca Moore arrived at 10:13 a.m. in 17th place and Iris Wood Sutton completed the course at 10:41 a.m. to claim the red lantern award.

Race winner Sebastian Schnuelle finished at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday.

Eleven mushers scratched in the race that began Feb. 14 in Whitehorse.
