Wild set to help football fans quench cravings

Ready for some football?

The Alaska Wild kick off their third season of pro football in Anchorage tonight at Sullivan Arena with a game against the Fairbanks Grizzlies.

You can expect the same fast-paced action of previous seasons, but there will be a few changes:

• The Wild have a new coach -- Floyd Johnson, who was hired as offensive coordinator during the offseason but was promoted to head coach when Hans Deemer resigned.

• The team's league has a new name -- the Indoor Football League, instead of the Intense Football League. The Intense league and the United Indoor Football League merged during the offseason and took on the new name.

Meanwhile, some things have yet to change.

The Wild played an exhibition game against the Grizzlies last week in Wasilla, and the Grizzlies triumphed 50-28. That means the Wild remain winless on the road. They are 0-15 in road games, not counting the exhibition loss in Wasilla.

The Wild, who were 5-10 last season in an effort that brought the team two more victories than in its debut season, will be looking for revenge tonight.
