Honeman throws his support to Croft over public safety

Former Anchorage mayoral candidate Paul Honeman, who finished sixth in the April 7 primary, on Wednesday endorsed Eric Croft for the job. Honeman joins losing candidates Sheila Selkregg and Matt Claman in urging their followers to vote for Croft in Tuesday's mayoral run-off election.

Honeman, a retired police officer, won about 5 percent of the total vote cast on April 7.

Croft finished second with about 19 percent, behind front-runner Dan Sullivan, who drew 43 percent of the votes cast. The two meet Tuesday in the runoff.

"Eric Croft and I share the same commitment to public safety in our community," Honeman told reporters at a press conference Wednesday outside West High School.

In his years on the Anchorage Assembly, Sullivan sometimes failed to support necessary funding for public safety, Honeman said.
