Iditarod saga wins regional Emmy

Riding on the parka tails of three-time Iditarod champ Lance Mackey, the Iditarod Trail Committee has won a third-straight regional Emmy for a documentary about the 1,000-mile race from Anchorage to Nome. "Iditarod 2008: Deja Vu" got the nod in the "News Special" category when the Northwest Chapter of The National Academy of Arts and Sciences met Saturday, according to race officials.

The 90-minute documentary tracks Mackey's 2008 effort to repeat the unprecedented -- some said impossible -- feat of winning both the Iditarod and the 1,000-mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race in 2007.

Mackey not only repeated the impossible in 2008, he returned to the Iditarod to win his third-straight victory there this year. He did, however, decide to sit out the long, cold Yukon Quest march from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to Fairbanks this year.

The documentary about Mackey's latest victory -- "Iditarod 2009: Nature's Fury -- is now available on DVD at www.iditarod.com for $24.95.
